What’s Hot at United Way of Greater St. Louis this Summer

Sunny skies, warm weather, and fun outdoor activities – Summertime is here!

The opportunities to get involved with United Way of Greater St. Louis (UWGSL) this summer are endless. From donating, to volunteering, and participating in fundraising initiatives that support our community, there are so many ways for everyone to be a part of the summer fun at UWGSL! Working together, we can make a difference and make this a special summer for our St. Louis region. Here are some fantastic opportunities you have to make a positive impact during these next few summer months.

Unite With Us Day

Join us for a day of service to help our neighbors across the region! UWGSL hosts its second annual Unite With Us Day, a community-wide day of service where volunteers come together to help our neighbors. This event is open for the public to participate on June 20th and 21st. Local individuals and families are encouraged to sign up for a volunteer project at www.stlvolunteer.org/unite where you’ll find opportunities to support our community by sorting and packaging food, organizing clothing donations from the community, and participating in community cleanup efforts such as yard work and garden maintenance. There are several volunteer opportunities available that will benefit some of UWGSL’s nonprofit agencies.

Summer Volunteer Guide

The UWGSL Summer Volunteer Guide is here! This annual guide created by the Volunteer Center is an online tool featuring local volunteer opportunities for youth and families. The Guide can be found at www.stlvolunteer.org/syg. All of the opportunities listed are through reputable nonprofit agencies throughout the St. Louis region in Missouri and Illinois. There is a wide array of volunteer opportunities that people can explore by location, age, skillset, passion and keywords. There are in-person opportunities like tutoring, garden maintenance, summer camp counseling, and more. If you can’t go to in-person volunteer opportunities, try some remote do-it-yourself projects where people can create cooling relief baskets, first responder kits, dinner baskets, and so much more. The great thing about the Volunteer Center is that there’s something for everyone to do to give back to the community through volunteerism.

Community Campaign Kickoff

Join the nation’s #1 United Way fundraising campaign! We kick off our annual community campaign on August 26th at United Way Night at the Ballpark where the St. Louis Cardinals will host the Pittsburgh Pirates.

This is a special time of year when we look to garner as much support from our community as possible, so we can continue our mission to help people live their best possible lives. UWGSL is the #1 United Way fundraising campaign in the nation with local fundraising results exceeding $3 Billion as of 2024. Lal Karsanbhai and Andrew Davidson will serve as campaign chair and co-chair, and we will look to them to support us in uniting people, companies, unions, and foundations to help make a positive impact on the community through collective giving. The need for support is urgent, with 43% of households in our region facing challenges to meet essential needs like rent, utilities, food, transportation, and medical costs. It takes all of us working together, donating, and being involved to spark real, lasting change. To learn more or make a donation, please visit our website at Helpingpeople.org.

Let’s Do Lunch

The UWGSL Women’s Leadership Society (WLS) will once again host its Let’s Do Lunch event on August 7th and 8th. This event will give WLS members an opportunity to network with female leaders across multiple career stages and industries in the St. Louis region. Let’s Do Lunch is a wonderful chance for WLS members to grow their personal and professional networks, learn from one another, and foster meaningful relationships. It allows them to tap into UWGSL’s network of female champions and celebrate their collective impact in our community. WLS is all about using the power of our community to bring driven women together to address social issues and work to create a solid foundation for our region, and Let’s Do Lunch serves as a way for WLS members to inspire one another. Event registration details will be coming soon.

Golf Scramble

The Illinois Division of United Way of Greater St. Louis (UWGSL) will host its 15th annual golf scramble on September 4th as a part of our festivities to kickoff our annual community campaign. This will be a day of golf, fun, and philanthropy to celebrate the work of UWGSL and its safety net agencies in our community. Proceeds from the event will benefit our campaign. United Way’s Illinois Division helps over 41,000 people each year throughout Clinton, Monroe, Randolph, and St. Clair counties. You can register for the golf scramble here. Dozens of local health and human service organizations are supported by United Way’s Illinois Division annual fundraising campaigns.

These events give a glimpse of what will be a super exciting summer at UWGSL, and we hope you will join us as we soak up the sun and try to help everyone! Please continue to look out for our monthly newsletters to get updates on dates, times, places, and more of local UWGSL events for you to get involved in.
